Significance of environmental health and environmental science

University education has benefits to individuals and society in levels that cannot undergo valuation with ease. Education leads to reduction of unemployment, poverty, and improvement of health care. Moreover, the choices of courses need to meet the dreams and aspirations of the students for them to have morale and self-drive for success.
Studying environmental science and environmental health at university develops an individual into an independent thinker. It not only builds the academic aspect of a student but also equips students with fundamental life skills in research and better management of the environmental resources. After the course, students do not have to go and seek government employments only. The course is multidimensional making students have diversity of opportunity depending on their areas of interest.
Graduates can decide to venture into consultancy either as Environmental Impact Assessment or Environmental Audit specialists. This are services necessary before the commencement of any major project anywhere in the world. Development funders like World Bank and other world aid organizations have made it mandatory for project proponents to undertake it prior to commencement of any project. In addition, they can become general environmental management consultants advising various customers and governments on issues dealing with the environment like ecological conservation, forest management, wildlife protection, water sources protection, global warming mitigation, climate change management and coping strategies. Moreover, some graduates can venture into activism and venture into environmental protection campaigns. Prominent environmental activists include Nobel Peace Winner Wangari Mathai who ventured into protection of forests; Rachel Carson who raised issues of chemical pollution and wrote the book silent springs on the extinction of birds’ population because of death of birds. Others include former US presidential contender Al Gore who achieved great milestones in documenting Global warming and climate change impacts across the globe. The list of great achievers in environmentalism is too long hence a show of the importance of studying environmental science.
environment
Moreover, studying the course equips students with in depth knowledge in research and analysis of information hence students can venture into research and generation of new scientific information for betterment of the world. Opportunities also are abundant in the sector of training in an institution and communities in relation to better ways of managing the environment.
The environment and sanitation are the source of pathogens and diseases affecting human beings. Studying environmental health gives knowledge of issues like epidemiology, toxicology, sanitation and health risks hence equipping people on better ways of protection and prevention of disease occurrences. Moreover, learners will learn issues of occupational safety and workplace hygiene hence reduction of work related diseases and injuries.
Courses in environmental science and health develop life skills and professional growth in students hence make them wholesome individuals to fulfill their individual life goals and provide fundamental services to society.

Tips for obtaining work permits in Australia

Till a year ago we were trafficking the world wide web for how to get a student visa in Australia starting with the most ubiquitous question ever of ‘why’ Australia. Anow, I am up for wearing the garbs of my post graduation and yes! throw a bigger hat into the Oz air. Thank you, for congratulations but and a bigger one at that is the pervasive question of what now? In line is the consensual ‘how’ to obtain a work permit in the land of Oz. Please allow me for my two cents.
 Image
For those of you who are objectively inclined to a quick reference the link of visas and permits should do the needful. However I am trying to bring forth those teeny meenies that are visible yet superficially myriad. These clues of tried and proved experiments can add to the flavour:
  • An application for a work permit needs to be submitted within later than 90 days before the expiry of the student visa to for checking with Migration Occupation Demand List (MODL).
  • Example of an application form is available at University of British Columbia but this is updated on a weekly basis and it claims the form filling fields may change without notice. But the application always depends upon the origin of your country
  • From my experience, looking at my friends and the air of expatriate shores I would say the best time to apply would be as soon as a copy of the final transcript of the concurrent course is available
  • A not to be shied tip is a local bank account. It helps to move the application a bit faster than the traditional routes. Invariably our scores and sores of hard work would determine if Australia would allow us to work and make a living. A local bank account offers that cushion of trust vouching for both a trail of paper and presence.
  • Also, work permit allowance would increase the chances of permanent residence for those interested in that sea. We shall cross that bridge when coming upon that bank.
I, for one am completing my post graduation by the end of March, 2014 and it took me a week to get this blog readied. And come to think of it the submission papers are in process in the adjacent tab while I write these pearls of wisdom. (No! this humility is all mine, nothing to do with Australian immigration minds, mate!). Though most of the information is available online there are a few other scraps of value that have hooked me up:
  • Australian education and work do make a difference in one’s living. The government providing more than A$200 million international scholarships each year.
  • The unemployment rate in Australia is incredibly low (5.2%), and moreover the country has skilled workers shortage (more job openings than suitable skilled workers)
  • Last year 10 World’s most livable cities holds 4 Australian cities, with Melbourne on the top
Did I mention, the country also offers various kinds of family permits to boot and indeed is a bed of roses. Oh!, an additional bonus tip for all those of you who have taken the great pains to read till here. Most of the jobs are nine to five and the people are friendly what with perks like Friday beer (do not ask me the source for it, for I am).

FIRST FEW DAYS IN NEW UNIVERSITY

FIRST FEW DAYS IN NEW UNIVERSITY
A New Beginning
University is the highest institution of learning. As such, learners who join it wield much hope of success. Anyone who aspires to join university needs to understand the pros and cons of its life. For an international student, it is imperative to appreciate the fact that university education needs tolerance and understanding of different cultural backgrounds. The most important things that one has to be cautious about when joining the university are money, tolerance, relationships, entertainment, lectures and regulations.
Generally, when one joins the university, he or she is considered as an adult who is expected to adhere to ethical principals of any society. Responsibility is a very important virtue required of any student. Although orientation offers new students with a chance of understanding basic ways of living in a university, wisdom is required to enable one to live a fulfilling and comfortable life in a cultural diverse environment.
Tolerance
When one joins the university, he or she meets people from different cultural and racial background. There is much difference in behavioral aspects of individuals and so one needs to accommodate and be understanding. For instance, people from same- background societies, such as Christians from Sweden may meet Muslims from Afghanistan. As such, socialization and associations are usually difficult for a student who has been enrolled newly to a university. Further, people from different racial background meet and so, it should be noted that some unacceptable attitude, such as racism may arise. In this case, one should cultivate the spirit of understanding and tolerance.Image

Entertainment
University life offers one freedom, which needs to be handled carefully and responsibly. There is much entertainment, fun and peer pressure influence that may determine ones future in the university. In the university, substance abuse, uncontrolled sexual behaviors, incessant partying, and other vices are common. Entertainment is important when socialization is taken into account but when misused, it becomes a platform of harming one’s life.
Money
Money is an important component in university life. After paying up school fees, one is required to remain with money to meet school and personal expenses. One should understand that money can be a unifying and dividing factor in university life. Those who have money may discriminate against those who do not have. Further, money can influence people’s behavior to engage in good or bad acts. Presence or absence of money may influence one to engage on bad acts, such as crime, prostitution or substance abuse. On the other hand, money can build one’s reputation through charities. For a new university student, he or she should know that responsibility is needed when dealing with money.
Relationships
Relationships are common in university. The relationships may be good or bad, and so one should be very careful when handling them. Some students in universities have managed relationships well that have led to marriages, but in some cases, they have resulted in suffering. A new student should be careful about relationships and be able to differentiate between good and bad ones.
Rules and regulations
Universities have rules and regulations that students are supposed to adhere to. The rules and regulations govern several issues that include accommodation, lectures, student’s behavior, and respect for university properties such as assets and reputation. Students who fail to adhere to the rules may face dire consequences, such as suspension and expulsion.
Lecturers
Learning is the most important factor in a university. Students go to university to acquire knowledge and life skills that are beneficial for their future life. New students should be prepared by buying appropriate materials for lecturers and plan their time to attend their lecturers. First lectures mostly occur during the second week and so students are required to attend the preliminary classes. Further, students should be aware of the lectures that they need to attend to and choose the subjects wisely.
Always Remember
Students who enter the university for the first time should be aware of aspects that govern university life and these are responsibility, tolerance, attending to lecturers and adhering to university rules and regulations. As such, the first few days determine whether a student will lead a positive or negative life in the university.

Provide quality education to your child

Homeschooling
Education is an inseparable part of everyone’s life. Majorly, it forms a foundation of an individual. I still remember that I heard or read a lot of stories that, education at home, in ancient times were only the option given to children belonging to elite or upper class. However, times have changed and so do the options available. Public or Private school options are available since the beginning however the homeschooling option kind of took a setback due to reasons like parents wanted their children to be independent and socializing was the topmost priority.
Gradually, parents and families are understanding the need to be with their children and provide them with quality education which is the integral part of their life. When I talk about “quality education”, I am not at all talking about the education given to the child from the common textbooks available in the market instead making them learn what is right or wrong or good or bad. In short, homeschooling is a way to bring up children learning moral and religious values.
Now a days the trend for homeschooling has increased for number of reasons like poor education environment given to a child in school, no religious or moral education given to a child, family reasons, disabilities and so on. Homeschooling allows the parents or the mentors to educate the child in a natural way. A natural way of learning actually refers to the learning where children learn through experiences and guidance of the parents or the mentors. Parents or mentors actively participate in making the child learn things through various activities or experiences that also helps the child to be completely involved with their parents or mentors and follow the path he is being directed to.
Image
Natural learning process or homeschooling believes that a child can learn better if he does the work himself and experiences all the things in his life with the right guidance from the parents or mentors. When parents complain that their children do not get the right environment in the schools where they can do or think right, I quite agree to what they say since the schools lack moral or religious education or they lack objective knowledge. Students are more focused on what is given in their textbooks rather than learning from the real life situations or experiences. They lack the ability to think beyond the textbooks and that is where the natural learning or homeschooling concept comes in.
Homeschooling is gaining popularity for the fact that it will enhance the learning and reasoning ability of children and will help them grow into better person. If I was ever given a chance for homeschooling, I would have definitely grabbed the opportunity for myself or for anyone in the family. Quality education is what every family or parent would look for their child.
So give it a thought!!!

Avoiding Cultural Shock in New Country

Avoiding Cultural Shock in New Country
                               Image
Cultural shock is considered to be a psychological disorientation which is generally caused by moving to a totally different environment. After being relocated to a new country, most of the times it has been observed that along with initial enchantment and excitement about the culture of new country expatriates often come across few things which they consider being totally different from their own culture and this is when cultural shock strikes them hard.
This shock is further exacerbated if the person is not pre aware about the culture of the country to which he / she is visiting. Cultural shock often results in extreme bitterness towards the foreign country’s culture and even result in physical illness. The more cultural information one has at hand the fewer surprises which ultimately makes avoiding cultural shocks easier.
Cognitive approach is one of the most famous approaches used to avoid cultural shock in a new country. It’s a fourfold approach with focus on below mentioned content areas.
a)      General cultural concepts
b)      Local communication patters
c)      Cultural self-awareness
d)     Cultural specific information
Having touched on all of these content areas the visitor or expatriate will have enough knowledge about the culture that he will be able to avoid total alienation and few of most debilitating consequences of cultural shock.

                                Image
Information acquisition about the new culture is just the first milestone which needs to be achieved in order to avoid cultural shock. Preparation regarding coping and eventually adjusting to different cultural environments requires development of certain skills, acquisition of new attitudes and modification of old ways of doing things.
Apart from the approach mentioned above in order to avoid cultural shock, mentioned below are some suggestions to avoid cultural shock and enhancing international experience.
a)      Acknowledging that learning about host culture will continue even after you have landed to the country, so try using information resources such as local newspaper, tourist information, libraries in order to learn maximum about the culture of host country.
b)      It’s important to have sufficient knowledge with physical surroundings, soon after arrival become familiar with streets, towns, local buildings and other surroundings.
c)      Within first few days of your arrival familiarize yourself with some of the basic surviving skills such as using local currency, transportation system, buying stamps and ordering from a menu. Mastering these simple skills will save you from frustration and will avoid cultural shock.

UK Dissertation Help

UK Dissertation Help
Dissection of a dissertation.
If you are reading this, there is a high possibility that you have either reached or you are close to the phase in your student life where you are getting ready to write your own dissertation. I cannot imagine anyone who would start writing their final draft without seeking help with the dissertation. Of course before you get to the final draft, there would be a dissertation proposal to deal with. And more often than not – what you propose and what you finally write become two very different ideas.
Dissertation writing is undoubtedly a daunting task – for anyone. After all, one is expected to display that one has acquired the vital skills that are needed to eventually organize or steer a research project.
Is there a pattern followed while writing a dissertation?
Certainly! To be able to do anything logically and analytically would require a pattern. Without a pattern there can be no logic!
Writing a dissertation is not to be taken lightly. How you separate a dissertation from other forms of writing is through the techniques used to analyze situations in reference to the “larger picture.” It would look for explanations, hypothesize, do comparisons and reach a conclusion which would help to attest your principle philosophy. It also tackles the “why” of the equation, apart from expounding on what can be done. The more specific you are the better.
Do not forget that it is a formal document and there are certain regulations that direct how it must be presented. You are required to divide your document into segments that postulate from an introduction to a literature evaluation going onto a validation of your analysis and methodology, as well as a conclusion. In case referencesare needed to be cited, that too should be included, lest you are censured for it.
How does a dissertation help?
By definition, the idea of a dissertation is that it would prove that you, the writer, are exposed to the art of identifying a suitable area of research. You are also capable of examining, consolidating and judicially analyzing the reliable texts and relevantsecondary data. Not to mention concocting and formulating a suitable methodology for the research.
If you are able to manage all that – you would have a decent document to present in your hands.
To be able to manage a dissertation proposal approved and then finally write one will automatically empower you with better writing and researching skills. Irrespective of whichever field you choose to work in – analytical thinking, focused writing and time management would not go amiss.
In contrast to regular assignment papers, it can be used as a dissertation sample for future presentations and recommendations. You may just want to convert it into a book or a series of articles with your other written works to highlight and help your career.
Managing more than your time – Subject and supervisor.
When you get to this leg of your journey – you would have already given out severaldissertation samples, endorsed and championed dissertation proposal examples. You would also have an advisor who [as the word clearly states] would advise you and help writing the dissertation.
                                                             Image
Your subject – Don’t stress too much if you realize half-way through your work that it isn’t shaping out as you expected it too. A lot of people take time in wrapping their head around what they really want to work on. Many students switch the subject of their dissertation from what they presented in their dissertation proposal. But do make sure that you keep your advisor and your committee in the loop and have their consensus on any big decisions.
It would be helpful to look at other dissertation samples from your department to get an idea about what all would you require to write a satisfactory dissertation.
Your supervisor – Keep your advisor updated about your thoughts and decisions. He/ she may have a valuable input or perspective for you to ponder on. However, since you are the one who would be doing immeasurable research on your chosen subject – you probably would know a lot more about it than anyone else. Be confident about making decisions.

Tips for Surviving in a New School in a New Country

Tips for Surviving in a New School in a New Country

Being an international student can be both exciting and scary at the same time. The moment you get the letter that you have been approved to your dream school abroad, you start having these doubts as to whether you can really do it - moving out of the country for a while, living on your own, making friends with people who have very different life experiences as you and actually surviving and graduating from your dream course. The dream you have back when you decided to apply abroad suddenly seems like a mistake.
Do not worry, having cold feet suddenly is normal...and good news, it would not last. As long as you heed certain tips on how to prepare for your studying stint abroad, you will adjust to this new chapter of your life in no time. Below are just some of the tips you can consider to survive in a new school in a new country.
The first step is to review the school website before arriving. Study it like you would for a test. A glimpse of the website does not count. The university website contains an avalanche of information regarding every aspect of the school and your course that you need to know. Cliché as it may seems, fears are the product of not being prepared. So prepare yourself and equip yourself with information to combat these second thoughts.
After perusing the site as thoroughly as you can, you will get an unbelievable feeling of mastery even before you even set foot on the school. When you get to the school, you'll even feel a sense of déjà vu as you match what you see on the website to what you see in front of you.
Another tip is to set your goals. Do not forget why you wanted to study abroad in the first place. There must be a compelling reason for you to leave your country and your family in order to seek education abroad. If you keep your eyes on your goals, fears and doubts will fade away. Write down your goals. Read these again whenever you feel like faltering.
Another tip is to become active in extracurricular activities. Try to join clubs or societies available in a university. It is easier to make a lot of friends this way. No matter how shy you are and nervous about meeting new people from another part of the world try to remember that as new students, all of you are shy and nervous whether you are a local or a foreigner. The same rule applies to making friends, smile always and be approachable. You'll have many friends in no time.
Aside from making friends, try to approach the teachers whenever you have problems too. As an international student, you might think that the teachers will not give you the time of the day, when in fact they can help you the most. A new curriculum that is very different from what you have back home is not that easy to adjust to. You will need the help of your instructor to ease your way into it.
One last tip is to locate international students as you. Even if you come from different parts of the world, you will all have common experiences and feelings that you can share to each other. You will make each other's stay in the foreign country easier. You can all go out together and try to get to know the city together. It is more fun to get lost with a friend. It makes you closer to each other.

Studying abroad is one of the big decisions one can make in life. It can be life changing, but usually in a good way. As long as you stay true to yourself and prepare for the changes that might happen, it can even be one of the best decisions you make in your life.

How to Manage Student Workload and meet Assignment Deadlines

As students join universities as newbies, their worst nightmare is the failure to graduate at the expected time. In their quest to successfully navigate their academic journey, the students are faced with a myriad of challenges that they ought to overcome. As they start college life, students face the reality as evidenced by the increasing workload; the flow of assignments and assessments gradually increases over time. At this juncture, students come to the realization that their life at the university will not be a bed of roses; it dawns on them that it is necessary to plan and carefully allocate the available time.
There are various salient aspects that determine the chances and probability of the students to graduate with good grades. One important factor is the quality of work that they submit for assignments and assessments. The instructors’ expectations are that the work is submitted delivered in advance as per the given instructions; it is critical for students to deliver work that is free of plagiarism. This will enhance the credibility of the work that is submitted by the students; it would be extremely significant for students to gain a vote of confidence from their instructors. Through this, the students are in a position to look forward to getting good ratings for their assignments.
In order to successfully manage the given workload, the students need to formulate an appropriate schedule that will guide them. In a majority of the universities, most of the assignments and assessments are handed out at the beginning of the semesters. This ensures students have sufficient time for carrying out a thorough research, and deliver the work on time as the semester progresses. Students then get an opportunity to consult credible online research databases and libraries and complete the assignments as anticipated. However, despite being given all this time, most students find themselves being caught up in a last-minute rush to meet deadlines and avoid being deducted marks for late submission of their work.
Most of the cases of lateness are attributable to negligence and a lack of proper time planning. With a participatory approach and through proper consultation with fellow students and the instructors, it is possible to meet the set deadlines. Indeed, students need to carry out a dynamic evaluation of their academic goals and expectations; this will come in handy in augmenting their performance. Proper time management is an essential factor in meeting the set deadlines; however, most students find this hard. If the students are fully dedicated and committed to their studies, it is hard to fathom a different situation other than graduation with honors upon completion of their studies.
