Academic assignments are inevitable components of all courses taken by students in colleges and Universities. Most of the instructors use academic assignments as a means of enhancing the students’ critical thinking and also as a way of letting the students work by themselves towards understanding specific ideas in a course. These assignments are in the form of essay papers, research and term papers as well as argumentative and analytical papers. They are very important to a student’s life in school because the assignments assist in enhancing and developing critical thinking skills. Once a student is given the task of writing an academic paper, the student is coerced to reason out issues critically and logically to attain the highest marks possible in the task. With time, such a student grows mentally and is able apply the critical thinking skills in life-after school and succeed in life.
            Writing academic assignments enhances the development of student’s memory, which is crucial towards scoring high marks in sitting exams. Once a student has successfully completed a specific paper, the student will likely recall most of the information in the paper and hence pass in the final exams. Working on academic papers further improves student’s decision making skills, which are significant in succeeding in workplaces and other places after the college life. Writing of the papers involves understanding of the paper requirements, planning of the write-up and submitting within the specified deadline. A student will thus need to plan his time and other resources appropriately to write a quality paper on time. This requires proper decision making to avoid working under pressure, and in the course of all these activities, the student’s decision making skills will ultimately get sharpened. While writing the papers, the student learn how to express themselves in writing, and this puts them at an advantage whenever they are invited for interviews and appointed for job placements. Students who can express themselves clearly in writing are preferred by employers as opposed to those who cannot.
